2nd grade Wit & Wisdom Integration:

In 2nd grade, students studied "Social Justice Heros" through their Wit & Wisdom integration. In the art room, each homeroom was assigned a "hero" to recreate their iconic portrait in a class painting mosaic.  Students started by making paintings only in black and white to explore value through shade & tint. Then, students were each given a piece of the portrait to paint. They needed to work together to discuss how the pieces fit through value and detail. Although this was an advanced lesson that I normally would not attempt with 2nd graders, it was inspiring to see the way that these students were invested to work together in unity for the completion of the whole. It was a nice metaphor for the legacy of these "Social Justice Heros".
